There is a tree outside my front door with a couple of pigeons hopeful of building a family in the branches as pigeons have done for at least the past twenty three years. Last night there was a bit of a storm and some twigs from the unfinished nest were dislodged. I am observing the male as he journeys back and forth repairing the damage and trying to complete the job to the satisfaction of the hen. She sits on a nearby branch monitoring his progress as he navigates his way through the foliage and deposits what he thinks are perfectly suitable twigs. The hen watches intently and each time he places a twig that she perhaps thinks is too large or on one way or another not quite right, removes it and dashes it to the ground. The male maintains his cool and his composure and doesn’t even appear to be showing signs of frustration. Inside he is probably thinking; ‘I don’t want to hear nothing bout you have headache later, or you can get your damn worms yourself’.
