There is a variety of lighting condition during the course of a day and over the years one learns what angle work best for which light. I dont know the exact time of day this image by Morkel Erasmus Photography. But I suspect its around 08:00 in the morning, as the light is very clear and and just starting to cool down (the light that is, starting to loose the yellow orange warmth). I find side lighting your subject during this time works best and what makes this specific image great is the depth created by the back treeline being so deep in the image (blurred) this is achieved by the angle Morkel chose to shoot at, ground level.
