There is an article published by globalresearch.ca from May 30, 2013 entitled, Bush Administration Convicted of War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity. Many people are probably not aware that Bush was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance in Switzerland after human rights groups had filed a criminal complaint charging him with violating international treaties against torture. Most people are not aware that when Rumsfeld was Secretary of Defense, he had to delay a meeting in Germany until he received assurances he would not be arrested for war crimes or that he fled France when he heard that a human rights group wanted to serve him with a complaint for war crimes. Bush, Cheney and other high level officials from this administration including the lawyers who drafted the torture memos Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes, Jay Bybee and John Yoo were convicted in absentia by a tribunal in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. The trial heard harrowing testimony from victims of torture at the hands of US soldiers and contractors. This included detainees having their fingernails pulled out with pliers and being subjected to electric shock. Bush admitted in his autobiography that he endorsed water boarding and enhanced interrogation. The charges are to be sent to the International Criminal Court. This could lead to other countries conducting similar trials. The proceedings were conducted to the standards of the Nuremberg Tribunals which brought Nazi war criminals to justice. The US is subject to international laws and the principles of Nuremberg. The tribunal has no power of enforcement but the administration is on notice that if they travel abroad, they could be seized and sent to The Hague. It has been said that the victors write the history. Hardly the victors in either Afghanistan or Iraq where massacres and bombings are still daily occurrences, there will likely be no consequences for this administrations war crimes. They are too rich and powerful. As Orwell wrote, some animals are more equal than others. Just because a person doesnt go to prison doesnt necessarily mean that they arent guilty. One of the few tea party members that I know said I should just get over blaming Bush and Cheney for lying us into sending US troops to their deaths in Iraq and the ill planned debacle in Afghanistan. They should say that to the families, friends and the soldiers they fought with. And to the tens of thousands who are wounded and returning with PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. As an afterthought, they may want to apologize to the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis we killed, wounded or displaced as refugees. What am I saying? They are only brown people. They dont count. God doesnt care about them.
