There is confusion about chronology of events regarding COAS role in dialogue with PTI and PIT. Here are the events in chronological order. 1. 28 August noon. PM asks COAS to facilitate dialogue with protesters. 2. 28 August evening. COAS contacts TuQ and IK and informs them that govt has assigned him this task. 3. 28 August night. COAS calls interior minister and informs that IK and TuQ want to meet him and he asks for a formal permission from PM to meet these politicians. PM grants permission. 4. 28 August late night. TuQ announces that army and COAS will be acting as mediators and guarantors. 5. 29 August early hours. Both IK and TuQ meet COAS. 6. 29 August before fajr. TuQ again announces that army will be acting as mediator and guarantor. 7. 29 August noon. Both PM and interior minister go to parliament and announce that govt has asked COAS to act as facilitator and not as mediator or guarantor. 8. 29 August after noon. ISPR tweets that Govt has asked COAS to act as facilitator in solving issues with PTI and PAT.
