There is currently a systematic racist campaign against Muslims in the United Kingdom with no justification what so ever as racist never can justify their actions. It appears to me that the intensification of far right activity feeds off and feeds into a more widespread, "mainstream" hysteria about Muslims and terrorism, playing on the ridiculous and disgusting idea that all or most Muslims are in some way responsible for the actions of the criminals who murdered an innocent citizen . This in turn interacts with a media promoting sensationalist messages about the threat to our security from muslims. This unjustified attack is designed by racist to divide decent people from all nationalities and racist who make up and shape up this fantastic country we live in. All decent people from across the political spectrum need to stand strong against all this, speaking up for rational thought in the midst of hysteria, advocating our unity, defending Muslim communities and helping organise anti-racist counter-protests against the likes of the EDL and the media bias that feeds hysteria and causes division. This is, or should be, a wake up call for all of us to build a political force in our communities capable of appealing to the angry and dispossessed, and capable of defeating reactionary ideas like radical extremist and nationalist racism. My expectation was that the labour movement will play that role but unfortunately we have been let down by them so there may be a need for local communities to bring about more unity in this important struggle.
