There is no safe claim of the origin of the Order of Odd Fellows, - TopicsExpress

There is no safe claim of the origin of the Order of Odd Fellows, and there are differing opinions on what the name Odd Fellow means. Based on historical linguistics, there is much suggestion that the name is derived from Oath Fellows - sworn brothers. For it is still the case that the members must take firm and decisive promises. The Order had its origins in England where associations of Odd Fellows existed in the 1600s. The purpose at that time was already based on charity, care and friendship. - Odd Fellows Norway
