There is not much that can compare with the fun when a group of young people gather at a pond and spend the afternoon swimming, especially on a hot summer afternoon. The water always felt just right, cool and relaxing. The water coming out so forceful from the big pipe made a nice deep hole and the pipe was actually used as a diving platform. Since the pipe was almost 12 inches in diameter, it was easy to walk on it and jump off into the water below. To be honest, it wasn’t high at all, just a little was above the water but it was good for making a big splash or a “cannon ball”. Everybody was having a great time, and the little guy was enjoying himself as well. It was so neat having big brothers that would let him tag along and go swimming with them. Now, bigger brothers are always good for protection and security and at times, transportation. But on this particular day, the bigger brother was going to become the little guys swimming instructor and the little guy was about to get a real lesson in swimming. He can still remember it clearly as his brother took him in his big ole arms and without much of a warning, threw him into the deeper water of the pond and shouted “swim”! Now, the little guy had had a few lessons that helped out a little, but this was going to a test of all tests. Was he going to swim or sink? For a lack of words, was he going to swim or drown. Remembering what he had learned at the swimming pool helped some but what helped the most was the fact that his bigger brother, while being the one to throw him into the deep water, big brother was going to be there for him. He would be there with him. Nothing harmful was going to happen to the little guy because of his big brother and the arms of security and protection around the little guy keeping him afloat. On this journey called Life, sometimes, like the little guy, we feel as if we have been tossed into deep water. It is as if there is a voice shouting out to us, “swim or drown”. Yet, it is during those times that we feel arms of security and protection wrapped around us and keeping us afloat. While having big brothers is great, I have read that there is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother and He will never let us down or forsake us, especially in our time of need. And remember..there is..More to Come.
