There is nothing bad in comparing an individual with Jesus Christ. - TopicsExpress

There is nothing bad in comparing an individual with Jesus Christ. Growing up,a popular song common with us in the Sunday school was mo fe ki ndabi Jesu ninu wa Pele re,Ko se ni to gboro binu lenu re Lekan ri (i want to be like Jesus in gentility, no one has ever had furious words from him). I am also aware that the first set of people that were referred to as Christians at Antioch in Syria, were so called because they were like Christ in deeds. Ultimately ,the goal of Christianity is to attain a christlike perfection in morality and godliness. But we know how the concept of flesh in Christianity is presented as an albatross in the attainment of such extraordinary feat,in a holistic sense. However, I believe there are aspects of Christs virtues that mere mortals can exhibit ,such that can evoke a valid comparism with Christ. I guess it would have been apt had Dr Doyin Okupe couched it that Goodluck Jonathans humility, gentility, and tolerance are christlike. Its such a counterproductive and a bad PR making a Jonathan a poster or an emblem of the entire concept of Christ, and blanketing his complete personality being a replica of Christ . This is not just because of his obvious moral failings and humanly limitations, but because its a terrible approach to using the religion card. Jonathan presides over Muslims, Orixa worshippers, and not just Christians. So beyond the conceptual incongruence ,the comparism is alienating and not the type that should be used in a religiously plural polity like ours.
