There is nothing wrong with being a domestic helper but there is something wrong about modern-day slavery. There is something even more wrong when a country pushes its citizens to become modern-day slaves because there is simply no alternative. I take offense at this book because it gloats over the fact that many Filipinos are modern-day slaves. I take bigger offense at the fact that my own government has an economic policy that thrives on the slavery of its citizens outside of Philippine shores. For sure, a lot of Filipinos will pillory Hongkong for this book. But we must bark up the right tree, not just the branch.
