There is now a new distal tip of the current lava flow. Just to the north of the one previously stalled is another narrow finger of lava moving slowly toward the Pahoa Marketplace/Malama Market area. It was perhaps 600 yards from Malama Market this morning, and .6 or so from the Hwy 130/Pahoa Village Road intersection. Yesterdays lava flow activity to the north sparked brush fires that burned toward the Ainaloa Subdivision until well into the night. They were no longer burning this morning, but the charred remains was visible, along with extremely smokey/voggy air making viewing and breathing difficult. The activity about a mile above the stagnant flow front on the northern edge is still very weakly active, and moved only 50 yards in the last 24 hours. Greatly diminished surface lava activity was observed burning the forest on both sides of the flow margins near the geothermal pad upslope of the flow front. The plume from the Pu`u `O`o vent was flat and blowing strongly to the southeast. Overall, surface lava activity was very weak throughout the length of the 13-14 mile long flow, with the exception of one sizable breakout several hundred yards above the flow front.
