There is one thing that must always preoccupy our minds as we read open letters and criticisms of Julius Malema. That is, everything heinous that he did and that he is accused of having done, he did as a leader of the ANC Youth League. It must never escape our minds that all these accusations leveled at him are accusations of his conduct and actions as a leader of the movement. The insulting of elders, the crass materialism, are all traits that he espoused in the ANC Youth League. Even this alleged looting that he is today accused of, happened when he was in the ANC Youth League. I want this to always be at the FRONT of our minds, because I want us, if we are to characterise Julius Malema, to do so correctly. I want us to see Julius Malema, once hailed by ANC leaders as the future of South Afrika, once regarded highly, once comfortably shielded from the criticisms leveled at his ostentatiousness, as a product of the ANC. When we criticise the man, let us begin at the right place. Let us draw a barometer and analyse him right from the beginning. And then let us ask ourselves this question: If Julius Malema was hailed a future leader of the ANC at the height of his powerfulness within the movement, and if Julius Malema was immune from prosecution for his alleged crimes while he was in the movement, what does it say about the ANC, and why must we believe that there are not more Julius Malemas harboured in the factory that manufactured him?
