There is progress in what has been a long, convoluted process: that of addressing the no-left turn off Exit 186 at Stillwater Avenue. Tonight the Infrastructure Committee signed off on an agreement with Maine DOT for them to begin a six month review process. The schedule is as follow: 1. Kickoff (December 2014) 2. Review available data (December 2014) 3. Initial public input (January 2015) 4. Assessment, current and future (January 2015) 5. Development & recommendations (Feb.-Mar. 2015) 6. Public feedback (April 2015) 7. Interagency meeting presentation (May 2015) 8. Final report (June 2015) I am hopeful that by next summer we can remove the prohibition of the left turn at Exit 186. I do also want to say that we should ALWAYS be looking at traffic calming measures in our neighborhoods. If traffic does increase in the Tree Streets as a result of this move, we need to address it. We do not want to lose the residential quality of that neighborhood. That said, this left turn is overdue. It is currently a very unsafe situation with people making the left turn anyway either deliberately or as a result of unfamiliarity and confusion. Its time for a change.
