There is something about not saying too much, not expressing our opinion publicly. Discretion, reserve, staying quiet, are described as virtues, and they are in many cases. And, there is also a time to speak up about things that matter to you, especially if they concern other human beings, animals, the environment. It can make people uncomfortable to talk about not-so-nice-things As my good friend Enid Lee says, In order to work towards equity, we need to name the inequity. Activism does involve getting out there, walking the talk. But part of activism is also helping develop and create a new awareness.
