Think of all of the people who lost their homes when the economy tanked and their values plunged. The government could have done more to help many of these people retain ownership during and in the aftermath of the crisis. Instead smart investors stepped in and took advantage of the situation and turned an artificial profit - artificial because everyone knew asset prices had plunged too far. But you dont have to be a genius to capitalize at such moments. You just need access to capital.
