There is something that excites me each passing day and that is the realization of who Jesus is in my life and who He is in my journey to follow him. It is the discovery that he is not a character taken from a story; and the certainty that He walked the roads and is walking still along the paths and in daily traffic. It is to see that every day he teaches me to live and to see life very differently in order to raise society’s values. Each passing day I feel the companionship of Jesus; which does not stop my wonder at the mercy and greatness of God given in the person of my Master. Each day not only I, but my peers are free and have the hope of a life dedicated first to a service of love. Thats why, no matter how much I must travel the world in the footsteps of Jesus, I must dedicate my life to bringing others to really know Him. To see Jesus is to see the opposite of what many teach, because the person of the Teacher is a person who teaches, hosts, guides, but first of all raises and dignifies, and makes you realize that every day that passes is an opportunity to seek the greater glory of God through forgiveness. So Jesus is neither a legend nor a historical account, but a reality that sometimes because of our blindness prevents us from seeing Him, hearing Him, feeling Him, touching Him and foremost, from following Him, no matter where He leads us. Meeting Jesus is to be willing to go when others say they know Him but do not dare to follow Him. It is to go to the limits that humanity does not even contemplate for fear. To know Jesus is to receive from him the invitation to grow, and furthermore to be persecuted or crucified. But who cares? If I have to be resurrected with Him, He knows Im not one of his “star” or “exemplary” ministers. I just know that every day he gives me a new opportunity to be better. If he does that with me, don’t you think He would do it for you? So I want you to realize that Jesus is not an idea or someone in the past. He is someone who is always waiting for you, as He waits for me. In spite of that, my life is not sufficient to understand that Jesus is a person and God’s guarantee of closeness to us no matter who we are. It is enough to just open the eyes of the heart, and understand that following Jesus is not done by merit but by the freedom of the Spirit.
