There is still plenty to see and do in and around Toowoomba during the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. Today’s highlights include: • The Talking Pubs Tour. Foodies and old yarn lovers alike will delight in this guided tour of three of Toowoomba’s historical pubs. A casual progressive dinner journey, this fun and light-hearted tour will uncover some quirky Toowoomba pub tales. Sample some of the local ale and enjoy some great pub-grub while being entertained with some fanciful yarns and fascinating architecture. It will be a truly memorable evening! Presented by the Toowoomba Clivia Society, clivia lovers come from all over Australia, and even from other parts of the world to see our spectacular Toowoomba clivias. With the perfect climate and conditions to create a magnificent display of these gorgeous blooms each September. Come along to the Southern Qld Institute of TAFE, 100 Bridge St Toowoomba, to view (and if the urge strikes – buy) some of the best clivias in Australia. Entry is free. • Cooking demonstration by Ryan McBurney, the Executive Chef at the City Golf Club. Ryan will show you his secrets to preparing a selection of delectable dishes using fresh, locally grown produce. Running until Sunday, this is Australia’s only Rhododendron & Rose Festival showcasing over 400 rhododendrons in full flower and 2,500 divinely perfumed roses over four acres of English style gardens. Don’t forget to take a wander down the daffodil trail and the bluebell walk. Brindabella is located on the corner of Quinlan Rd and New England Highway at Highfields and is open from 9am-5pm with last garden entry at 4.30pm each day. Cost is $4 per person. • The Beggars Sing! pays homage to the great vocal groups Peter, Paul and Mary, The Mamas and the Papas and the Seekers. Now making frequent appearances on the stages of Europe and at Australia’s festivals and theatres, The Beggars are a gaining a loyal following.
