There may be many different reasons why people buy contemporary art, but no matter what the reason is, it would always be related to personal preference and money value. The world’s wealthiest individuals are spending increasing amounts of money on art. Artprice reported that ‘from July 2013 to the beginning of July 2014, it’s been the best in the history of contemporary art in terms of auction turnover, price rises and record bids.’ London’s Friex week sales in October were the highest-grossing yet, with Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips pulling a combined 216.7M pounds (US$349M).
