There may have been some confusion about a meeting in Washington - TopicsExpress

There may have been some confusion about a meeting in Washington County discussing the issuance of a Special Use Permit to allow a medical cannabis cultivation center to be built north of New Minden on Dog Alley Road. County Zoning Office Administrator Rick Greten said a newspaper ran an article that the County Zoning Board of Appeals met Monday night to go over the application. Greten says the Zoning Board of Appeals will not be meeting until June 26th in the Courthouse in the upstairs courtroom. After which, they may make a recommendation that will be taken to the next Washington County Board meeting on July 8th at 3 PM. Greten said he presented the Zoning Committee with information about the process and what was being asked, all of which was the same as what is being asked in Marissa. The state is allowing one cultivation center per Illinois State Patrol District, of which Nashville is in District 13 and Marissa is in District 11. Centralia is in District 12 and city leaders voted unanimously in support of a cannabis cultivation center in town in early May. Centralia leaders have already met with investors who are interested in the area. Now its up to the Department of Agriculture to approve the citys plan. Greten says such a center in Washington County could provide up to 30 jobs, but the State would make the money, not the County. This is sure to be a controversial topic in the coming months for the County Board.
