There once was a Pastor of a little country Church. This church - TopicsExpress

There once was a Pastor of a little country Church. This church had about 30 to 35 members. The people of this Church were very close and intimate in each others lives. The reached out to one another, got together for lunch and/or dinner, played Chess and basketball together and were there for each other in times of need to encourage each other and to lift one another up. They reached out to the poor and volunteered their service of themselves whenever a need arose. Even though they did these things and were so good at not only lifting one another up but also lifting up the needy and lost of their community, other larger Churches looked down on them because they were small in number. This depressed the Pastor and he began to wonder what he was doing wrong and what he could do to attract bigger numbers. He began to doubt himself and his ministry. Then one day a Church member and friend of his called him on the phone and began to encourage him at what a wonderful job he was doing as Pastor of this little Church. His friend thanked him for the lunches they had gone on during the week and for taking time out to just spend time together playing Chess or talking about what was on one anothers hearts. The Pastor hung up the phone feeling so encouraged and uplifted. Because of that phone call he realized humbly that maybe he was doing a good job because he was not just a Pastor to his congregation on Sunday morning but he was also a dear friend to those people all throughout the week too......You see, its not so important that a Church be growing in numbers as much as the number of people whos hearts are growing to the Lord and for other people within that Church, no matter how small. God uses the small in numbers to do great things and reach the hurting of a community and bring the lost to Jesus. It starts with the love in the peoples hearts of a Church, not the number of people..
