There once was a minister in a far away land who earned the respect and admiration of the king but the jealous hatred of all the other (non Jewish) ministers. In an attempt at discrediting him before the king, the ministers told the king that the minister he so admired was cooking the books and was hiding assets from the tax collector. When the minister , a Torah Observant Jew , was called to give testimony as to his assets before the king he brought out books that reflected much less than the king knew him to own. In a rage the king demanded an explanation. I know you have thousand of acres of land, hundreds of horses and many servants. How can you explain showing so much less? The minister explained that should the king desire he could confiscate all he owns and therefore he did not view that as his own. What is in these books, explained the minister, is all that I have given away to charity for the eternity earned from that will remain mine forever. Lesson learned.
