There really was a Signed treaty as recognized in the international court of law, recognizing Hawaii as a Sovereign Nation. Including a proclamation to never overthrow the Government of Hawaii. A majority of nations including the United States (at that time) acknowledges Hawaii as such. A treaty the U.S. would soon break at gun point, only 50 years after Hawaii was declared an Independent Nation. The U.S. broke international law, but dont see the overthrow of a seated Queen as a problem. To avoid conflict and bloodshed of Hawaii people, our Queen left the throne under duress, but urged Aloha among the people. Once Queen Liliuokalani was removed from Iolani Palace, they proceeded to claim lands and properties, going against the laws of Hawaii. Subterfuge: The overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii refers to a coup détat on January 17, 1893, in which anti-monarchical insurgents within the Kingdom of Hawaii, composed largely of United States citizens, engineered the overthrow of its native monarch, Queen Liliuokalani. This was accomplished by a Company of Armed U.S. Marines. As such, Hawaii was initially reconstituted as an independent republic, but the ultimate goal of the revolutionaries was the annexation (land grab) of the islands to the United States, which was accomplished five years later in 1898. The issue of overthrowing a people, is not unlike war crimes, the U.S. seeks to enforce against other countries. See the resemblance? Some believe Hawaii wanted to become a State, and in subsequent elections voted for statehood. Thats not true either. Many Hawaiians were not allowed to vote, or their ballot was simply voided as ineligible. Foreigners with minimal residency did vote. We share our Aloha to a fault. Seems many Hauli (foreigner) have taken advantage of the good nature of the Hawaiians far too long. Now days, foreigners think we hate them. In fact, we dont. Were just tired of the Take and Take Some More mentality of the masses who are hell bent on destroying a paradise that was once ours to share. People who disrespect us, or think were slow witted, or not up to speed with the times. Its unfortunate, since it comes at a great price. There are many wonderful transplants to our nation as a people. They are among our poi hauli. This is the true nature of Hawaii, but wholesale larceny of our Nation has to end, before its too late. False inflation is the price paid by all. Where the poor are forced to sell out, because they cant afford to live in the homes built by their Ohana. To sell off what they can, in order to buy what they must, from people who only care about profits, and can afford to live as they will. We used to have a fair trade system in Hawaii. What happened to it? How did our Hawaii become a spec in the ocean to be bought and sold by the rich? I hear it every time visitors return to the United States. Its so expensive!, How can anybody live there? In 1993, the 100th anniversary of the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii, Congress passed a resolution, which President Bill Clinton signed into law, offering an apology to Native Hawaiians on behalf of the United States for its involvement in the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii. This law is known as the Apology Resolution. Woohoo! A legal term for Quit your whining! or Too bad! Whats done is done!. I suppose in the world court it would suffice as penance for their treachery. My answer... Free Hawaii, Free our people, and our way of life. Return what is rightfully ours as peoples of Hawaii. Our Nation, Our Kingdom! Every November 28 shall be Lā Kūʻokoa! (Hawaiian Independence Day!) Hawaii nei. I hope someday to return to my homeland, knowing our independence is assured, if not already a done deal, and that we as people of Hawaii, of the Aina, will heal. That is all... For now! Be good to yourself and others. Live Aloha! Live Pono! Braddah Allison -
