There seems to be no end in sight to Shias’ killing in Pakistan. People in Karachi have a held a funeral for Shia scholar Allama Ali Akbar Kumaili. He and his body guard were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday on their way home from his factory. Mourners also protested against the continued killings of Shia community in Pakistan. Despite efforts by the National assembly to improve security, another gathering of Shia Muslims grieving their loved-ones shows that the efforts are yet to yield results. The protesting mourners also condemned what they called the government’s failure to provide security for Shia Muslims who roughly make over 20% of Pakistans 180 million population. The latest deaths bring to at least six the number of Shia people killed in Karachi in the past several days. In its June report this year, the human rights watch said that Pakistan’s Shia Muslims have been targeted by what it called an unprecedented escalation in sectarian violence since 2008. Anger has already grown among Shia Muslims in Pakistan, as a large number of people have been killed amid a surge in attacks against the community over the past several years.
