There used to be such a thing as the Fairness doctrine. It made it so that the media had to provide equal air time to both sides of every issue, and equal air time to both political parties. That, and most of the power of the FCC to regulate the media, was disposed of under Reagan, while what was left was later tossed out during the Bush era. As a former right winger, I understand how the right was programmed to support that, because they were told that the fairness doctrine would force Christian radio and television shows to broadcast atheist messages from satan. Of course that wasnt true at all, but like Hitler knew, you can get the people to go along with anything, as long as you tell them theyre doing it for God and country. I bring this up because I think we need to restore the fairness doctrine. I also think we need to restore truth in broadcasting, and truth in political advertising, other things weve lost because of lawsuits by right wing groups that claim that lying is within their right of free speech. Since conservatives wont vote to restore the fairness doctrine (and they are never going to do that because theyre brainwashed to believe that hearing other points of view is bad and evil and from the devil) I find it really annoying when they claim something is biased. Beyond annoying. They want absolutely no balance and no counter to their propaganda machine, no matter how fact based it is. if cons really believe the media is liberally biased youd think theyd be all for the restoration of the fairness doctrine, so the right wing could push their viewpoint on mainly liberal media outlets, right? Their leaders do not want them to put two and two together. If the media is so liberally biased, why not demand the fairness doctrine be restored? Well gee, maybe because that would be the end of right wing 24 hour news and bullshit propaganda. If the US ever enforced laws regarding fact based campaigning and fact based reporting again, the right wing would go down in everlasting flames. Thered be nothing for them to make believe report on.
