There was a news in Eenadu Tamilnadu edition yesterday. Chennai Corporation want to make all roads where city buses are plying in to concrete roads as Corporation is spending too much of money in maintaining the black top roads and public also suffering in every year rainy season. Corporation feels that concrete roads will not require any maintenance atleast for 15 to 20 years. So Corporation invited all contractors and told them these issues and told them that soon Corporation will be floating tenders for concrete roads. Contractors unanimously rejected this proposal. The reason for their rejection is, they dont want such roads where there wont be any maintenance as they will not have any more work and they will go jobless. Contractors told that they will not participate in any such tenders even if they are floated. Now Corporation do not know what to do as there is no one to make these concrete roads. Ideally, Corporation must call for global tenders or even national level tenders or should directly talk to companies like L&T, SomDatta, Gamon India etc etc and should award them the contracts even if they charge a bit higher price. Corporation should not bend to the blackmailing contractors. Hope some good decision will be made soon.
