There was a period in my life when I felt the drive to anywhere - TopicsExpress

There was a period in my life when I felt the drive to anywhere needed to be accomplished at the maximum allowable speed plus some. Points A and B were dots that needed connecting as quickly as possible. Speed was an envelope meant to be pushed in order to avoid wasting time. In recent years, however, I’ve come to realize the importance of the journey, the walk in the garden, the slow movement through the day when the mind is allowed to wander and observe. I suppose it comes with age and the realization that the only true waste of time is to use it poorly. Even then, at the slower pace, it is a surprise how much is missed. Yesterday, as I made my rounds, I finally noticed two cantaloupe hiding beneath the leaves. I’ve looked at that patch almost every day since it was planted, and yesterday was the first time they swam into view. It’s nice to know that even in the closely observed there is almost always something waiting to surprise and delight me.
