There was a school board meeting tonight which I attended as well as 5 other members of the public including 3 members of the Blueberry Community School employee team and Rosann Brunton, the other school trustee candidate in addition to Mickey Kinakin. It was an informative meeting. There was an increase to the LIF fund which enabled the district to put more money into teacher and EA positions. The data can be seen in the agenda material on the SD20 website. There was a good discussion about classroom composition and a good reminder from Trustee Carter that classroom size is important as well. There was little mention about the Blueberry Community School other than the October 20th meeting was well attended and the opinion of those in attendance was intently expressed. I asked about the state of the decision making process and Chair Ganzert replied that discussions were ongoing and that all opinions were being communicated. The next School Board meeting is November 24th. Where do I stand? I fully support the Blueberry Community School board and their request for the sale of the school for a dollar. I recognize this may not be the best fiscal decision for the district but sometimes fiscal responsibility should not outweigh social responsibility. The opinions of the Early Childhood Council, two prominent businesses (Kalawsky GMC and Canadian Tire), seniors, parents and teachers matter.
