There was a time when I couldnt imagine that the all-consuming worry -- the anguish I felt -- would end. There are scars, but it has. I write this because I know that it can feel hopeless. Today a mom wrote, Reaching out because I am gut-wrenching sad after reading our newspaper this morning, the obituary of a friend of my sons, 31, big smile, kind heart, valedictorian of his class. Struggled with addiction, was doing well and then overdosed. A parents worse nightmare. My son, 31, on methadone for a year now, doing well...but honest to God, the fear he will relapse is with me daily. Just writing because I know you understand. Love my sons so much....addiction is a fatal disease... Those whove lost their kids know the devastation and horror wrought by this disease. In the meantime, theres hope for those kids who are suffering from addiction, and hope for their families to heal.
