There was a time when it was considered nutritious for the body to have one tall glass of milk a day. As, it provided the required calcium for the bones and generally gave the body nourishment and resistance to common ailments. In a recent article I read that milk really does not provide calcium and most of it is rejected by the body; hence, certain vegetables, fruits and pulses are better sources of the vitamin. How did a whole generation of Indians, nay, the world grow up to what they are today? What was considered the strong point of Punjabis and our own armed forces subsisted on a daily ration of chapatis and rotis for decades. Now, it is said, that the gluten in wheat is harmful to the body. Therefore, eat products made of other grains! Vegetarianism is being touted as the next best thing to godliness! For years, children were taught to have eggs, fish and meats like chicken and mutton to provide strength to their bones and muscles. Now, that is all declared as poisonous and vegetarianism is shoved down the throats of the upcoming generation. Are there lobbies that propagate the use of one lifestyle/cuisine/product and denounce the other?
