There was a woman named Edith Ever Eger, and she survived Auschwitz. She lost her parents to the gas chambers, and suffered a broken back from one of the guards. She withered to 40 pounds. After all this, she recalls lying in the grass wondering which blade of grass to eat, rejoicing that she still had a choice. And here we find it hard to choose healthy food instead of ice cream. We need a more profound respect for the gift of free will.
