There was an article i read on 3 Phrases Christians Should Quit Relying On Heres the link if youd like to check it out: https://reasonforchange.wordpress/2013/01/06/3-phrases-christians-should-quit-relying-on/ and heres my response: As for the first point 1st Corinthians 10:13, if I am using this out of context than please help me out on this verse, but from what ive read I’m not seeing any other kind of meaning for the scripture. But I agree that sometimes saying that is not appropriate, but that does not take away from the validity of the text. I am a firm believer in the fact that God is in control. And it says in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God loves us and will make a way, and He isnt just gonna pick you up and use you as a puppet. He want US to step out and show faith in knowing that any situation will work out for the best because He is in control. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Time to step up church. Show some faith. As for the second, plain and simple I agree. Ive said this before, and Ive heard people say the same to me. I guess the big thing is that, with our culture of doubt and skepticism, saying God told me seems far fetched. But I believe that God does speak, to a select few people. What a testimony!! 30 years ago… If you have a spiritually audible encounter with the Father be careful who you share that with. Cause it was a gift. Matthew 7:6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” Know who you are speaking to. God didnt just make ten verses for us to spread the gospel with. He gave us 66 books with 774,746 words. Choose wisely. As for the third, its give and take for me. The point made in this section, has to be the most watered down, closet Christian, pew sitting, absolutely passive thing I have ever heard come out of a Christian article. I couldn’t believe what I read. Ephesians 6:18 “And pray in the Spirit, on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, keep on praying for the Saints.” The text doesn’t just say always pray for the Saints, (Which if you are a devote Christian than you are), it says “KEEP ON PRAYING.” Paul is encouraging us!!!! Because IT IS difficult! If it wasn’t hard to do, than it wouldn’t mean as much! But just because something is hard to do, doesn’t mean you quit! That is what Satan said to Jesus Himself when he was being tempted in the wilderness. Jesus was fasting in the desert, and Satan tempted him to eat. Matthew 4:3 “The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Satan was saying, it is too hard, you need to eat. You need things of this world. Give in. But in verse 4 “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” If you put God as your priority, than He will provide. Every time. That is the cornerstone of faith. I agree that prayer does not take the place of providing for someone in a time of need. Totally agree, and I think that our society of “watered down Christians” have turned the phrase, Ill pray for you, as a cliche that says I dont really care to help so ill just forget about it. It says in the bible, Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Do not conform to the cliches that others have made. That is what the Devil wants!!! He wants us to follow suit. But it says in Romans 12:2 DO NOT!!!! BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND. Instead of being afraid and backing down, RISE UP, and renew your mind and let the words that come out of your mouth, be truth, and use your action to reflect what you say. Because it also says in Matthew 15:18 “But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.” Renew your mind. Renew your heart. So that when you tell someone that you will and ARE praying for them to the PERFECT and AWESOME God, that they are good hands. By tellings someone that you are praying for them, you are reminding them that, there is a God, and He wants us to lift up not only our struggles, but the struggles of our brothers and sisters. 1st Corinthians 10:13. Jesus wants us to wage war on the things that make us impure. So dont confide in the ways of the world. We have changed for the good and the bad. Its time to stop forming scripture to what we think is the best for society now. God is constant, no matter how much we change. Who are we to change what He has written for us. Thats our sword of the spirit. Put on the full armor of God brothers and sisters and join your Christian family on the front line. In Christian love, Patrick.
