There was an epic finish to a very exciting domino competition that saw Andrew (Ti Shapot) and John raising their hats as the Champions of the Shirley’s Place Mon Repos Masters four hand Domino Competition. The Sponsor, players and spectators all felt that they got their money’s worth so I am not going to allow you the reader to get any less. The semi finals got on the way just about 9 pm on Thursday night and it was all about best of 5 series or first to 3 series wins. In semi finals 1, Warn and Dave went up 2 series and 5-0 in the third series and were looking to shut out Simon (Ti Sigh) and Christopher in straight sets but the resistance of Simon was more than glaring when he motivated his partner to get back in the game and recorded the first and only back sarpat (back love) in the competition. This kept the guys alive and it was anybody’s game, they won the other series to draw the match at 2 series a piece and a final series was about to determine who plays the finals. At this point, the backs of Warn and Dave were against the wall as all the support had shifted to Simon and Christopher for that massive come back. Warn and Dave kept calm and cruised to victory in the final set 6 games to 2 and booked a spot in the finals. If spectators thought they had witnessed the encounter of the tournament in the first semi finals, they had only receiver the appetiser. The second semi finals went down to the wire, Andrew and John went 2 series up early in their encounter but left an opening in their game that Tricia and Marcus (Pow) capitalised on. They came back to equalise the match 2 series a piece. The fifth series saw Tricia and Marcus taking an early lead to 5 games to 2 but according to Marcus one shot not played by his partner at that point prevented him from going to the finals. Yes!! Andrew and John found their way and defeated their opponents 6-5 to secure an all Group A finals. In that finals a request was made to reduce the game to a best of 3 series in the interest of time. All the participants agreed and the final was on its way, Warn and Dave drew first blood by winning the first series 6-2. It was then that Andrew and John smelt their blood and took thing to another level with a 6-0 (sapat) win in the second series. This was game on, although a sapat would normally carry more points in the preliminary rounds, it was only equivalent to a series win in the finals and the champions would be determined by the winner of that third series. Warn and Dave rushed to a 5-3 lead but didn’t realise that this was the point that Andrew and John were notorious for making their come backs. It was like a western song for Warn and Dave ‘where the boy don’t always get the girl here in the girl, here in the real world,’ and a situation of never say die as John would say, “LION R ROAR!!!”. That’s all she sang, John and Andrew swept it away with a 6-5 nail biter and won an undisclosed cash prize. In the post tournament ceremony, it was stated very clear by the secretary of the club Dave Charlery that if you have a weak heart you defiantly cannot come to our club domino games for we ravish in nail biting finishes. The sponsor was very proud and took time off commend the club for a well organised competition and has also promised to stick by our side as far as in house sponsorship is concern. The Mon Repos Masters Domino Club says congratulations to Andrew ‘Ti Shapot’ Ferdinand and the Rasta man John Henry “Lion r Roar!!!”
