There was another battle on 28 and 29 June at Bannockburn - TopicsExpress

There was another battle on 28 and 29 June at Bannockburn Scotland, where again Scots fought against English. But it was a recreated version only- a war without bloodshed, to mark the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. Hundreds of actors recreated 1314 battle as part of the Bannockburn Live event near Stirling. The event was held at the site of the decisive conflict, where King Robert the Bruce defeated the forces of Edward 2 for the first time ever. The Battle of Bannockburn was fought on 23 and 24 June, 1314, when Edward 2 marched his armies north in a bid to lift the siege of Stirling castle. Robert the Bruce led an outnumbered Scottish force to a decisive victory which sealed Scotland’s political independence. But the politicians are critical of the Scottish government’s choice of referendum date, which is 18 September 2014, in the year marking the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. The former Prime Minister John Major has said, ‘I find it rather sad that the Scottish National Party chose the anniversary of Bannockburn for the vote – presumably to maximise the opportunity for any anti-English sentiment that may exist, though we were at war centuries ago.’
