There was disappointment for City last night, as they lost out on penalties to Loughgall in the semi-final of the Bob Radcliffe Cup. City started strongly in a match played in torrid conditions, but couldnt find a breakthrough in the opening half, thanks in large part to visiting keeper Gareth Buchanan. At the other end, City had Sean Morgan to thank on a couple of occasions before Ronan OHara put the Eagles ahead on the hour mark after good work by Stephen Murray. The lead was short-lived, however, as Stephen ONeill nabbed an equaliser with 20 minutes to go. Loughgall had the better of the remaining time, but no further goals sent the game to extra-time. Both keepers continued to star during the 20 additional minutes, and so the game went to penalties. Morgan saved from ONeill and Rodgers, but Buchanan kept out Paul Carvill and Dale Montgomerys efforts to send the game to sudden death. Former City player Mark Stewart scored, before substitute Robbie McQuaid saw his shot saved to put the Villagers through to the Boxing Day final.
