There was once a small brown mare by Poker that lived in our green pastures, ruling over her small band of mares. She was aloof yet curious, kind and steady, but did not suffer fools gladly. She carried herself with the class and grace of a seasoned professional. She ran her paddock efficiently and protectively. She remained the great dame of our farm until her final day. This was a mare who raced primarily in the claiming ranks and finished on the board 30 out of 63 starts, earning six figures the hard way, including going three for three in a ten day span at Aqueduct in 1986. This hard knocking mare then retired to the breeding shed and one crisp Florida morning in February 1994, she foaled a colt by Silver Buck. In time, the colt would carry the gray coat and proud stature of his sire, but there is no doubt where Silver Charm inherited his intelligent eye, racing heart, will to win and true grit in the face of the adversary...his mother, our late retiree, the Queen Mother of Champions, Bonnies Poker. We honor your memory as your son returns to your last earthly home. Much love to you always, Miss Bonnie.
