There were 9 of us all together. (I tried to squeeze everyone into the pictures below ) We were 9 mothers who traveled to Washington D.C. in order to demand changes and most importantly police accountability. I have new face book friends who may not be aware of this trip, so Im posting not only for their knowledge but because of something Ive neglected to mention which really was a personal observation. Out of all we met with with in discussing policing and the need for change, whether during the congressional hearings, the meeting with Obamas staff, or top officials at the Department of Justice, no matter what they said or the earnestness in which they said it, what was revealed to me, is they live in an isolated world far removed from anything that we would discuss! No doubt they meant well, and no doubt they are aware that something must be done. But there understanding and your understanding are two totally different things. It is as if they can simply turn the tv off and that ends the broadcast. But for you, it is life day in and day out. No sooner than you walk out your house, you are a potential victim! For them that is not case, they are insulated protected to a degree. And that protection prevents a level of understanding as to what it is to be an open prey and what it is to fear for your children each and every time they walk out the door. That lack of understanding causes a casualness in dealing with the issue. There is no urgency on their part just the business of running the nation. This is why pressure must be applied, so that they will feel something they are not yet feeling which will compel them to act in all urgency. The life we live is not a reality tv show its reality. And no one should be allowed to take it for a joke.
