There were so many things that happened the past months but nonetheless I am happy because it led me somewhere beautiful. It led me to Hungry Minds :) In our Malolos School we have 5 teachers and 1 social worker for two classes (too sad, that we cant support a new grade 4 class). Here in Pasay (main) we have 2 social workers, 1 principal (for both school), 1 admin/finance personnel (for both school), 1 fundraising officer (for both school), 1 admin assistant and 6 teachers for 3 classes. No staff at all. How do we do it? Well we have Nanays and Tatays, and scholar aides to help us. Everyday we have a set of parents and scholars that serve as aides of the day. They do the cooking, washing, distribution, feeding, grocery and all other task that needs to get done in the school. Yes, we feed our students breakfast and lunch. For Pasay, in a week we consume 1 cavan of rice. We divide it to 10 meals, 5 breakfast and 5 lunch. We feed around a hundred every meal. Nanay Guaring cooks for everyone, she goes to school at 4am to start cooking. Other than that we also provide most of the school supplies needed by the kids, even their uniforms. We also cover their transportation. We have a school bus and we have Tatay Jun to drive the kids to and from the school. As teachers we multi-task. We are the counselor, sometimes the nurse, the librarian, sound system personnel, club moderators, and all other task that needs to get done, we do it. Tiring, yes, but definitely fulfilling. To see see how the kids develop and to personally meet their parents and siblings, and to even have the chance to visit their houses. See where the kids live is just an amazing experience. It has been just over a month since I started working in Hungry Minds but I feels like Ive been with them for a long time. I am more than thankful to be a Hungry Minds teacher. To be part of something great. We may not be able to change the world but we can always change the life of at least one kid at a time.
