There will be a National march on the weekend of March - TopicsExpress

There will be a National march on the weekend of March 21st/22nd. Organising a march is a big job and I am not able to put the time into organising another one for Port Macquarie this time around. I am asking if there is anyone who would like to take over the reins. I still have the banner which would only need a minor change. I also still have 5 marshals vests. The first step on the process is to decide on a date, time, meeting place and route to march, remembering that you cant please all of the people all of the time. Westport Park has been a great meeting place for both the previous marches as there is ample parking. Council must then be contacted to make sure that it doesnt interfere with any other event. Once that has been established the Police need to be informed and a map of the route needs to be provided along with the application, whoever makes the application must take responsibility for the behaviour of the marchers and must sign a declaration stating as such. You must only refer to it as a peaceful march so that insurance is not needed. Keep in mind that it is best to stick to side streets and pathways because it is a whole new ball game if you want to walk on the road. Once you start talking about stalls and stages it gets tricky, so best to keep it simple. A sound system needs to be organised for the event, the loudspeaker we had in March was not strong enough, the one we had for the march in August did the job and is for hire for around $50.00. If people want to talk at the march you would need to consider if you want to keep it grass roots or whether you would make it political, many political groups approached me at the previous march but we decided to keep it for the people who dont normally have a platform to express themselves rather than involving political parties. I would also make a time limit of 4 to 5 minutes per person as it was a little long last time. Posters and flyers advertising the event need to be distributed so you would need some volunteers to help as it is too much for one person. Everyone needs to be kept informed as to any changes so you would probably need to become an Admin of our community page, so you can keep everyone posted, or alternatively start an organisers group. I will always be available to give advice or help in small ways, however my circumstances have changed from last year so I cant put in a huge amount of time. I am also happy to butt out if I am not needed. At this stage I am waiting to hear if Taree is marching, I thought we may even be able to team up with them or Coffs Harbour. The other alternative is to organise a coach to go to the big march in Sydney. It is a lot of work but well worth the effort if someone is willing to give it a go. ANYONE interested? Thanks ~ Jan.
