There will be an open day at the Timaru Fire Station on Sunday (October 26) from 1pm to 4pm to raise money for the Firefighters Ride for Cancer. There will be a car wash, fire safety demonstrations, a sausage sizzle, bouncy castle and a chance to check out the fire engines and station. The Firefighters Ride for Cancer is a national fundraising event in memory of close friends, colleagues and New Zealanders the New Zealand Fire Service has tragically lost to cancer in recent years. This is the third year that the Ride for Cancer will take place and it will be held from November 6 to 15. From Bluff to Auckland, firefighters across the country will ride in convoy to raise research funds for the Cancer Society of New Zealand.
