There you have it, Ive always been bashed and called a black hater. What I say is the gospel truth JOHANNESBURG - Childline South Africa says parenthood should form part of the country’s education system in a bid to curb the alarming number of absent fathers. The organisation was responding to the latest Statistics SA report indicating that only 33% of children under the age of five live with both their biological parents. Childline spokesperson Joan van Niekerk said the report paints a sad picture and steps should be taken to address the situation. “Parenthood should be introduced at primary school level. This will help school children rethink their decisions and understand the role of parenting. Single parenting does a lot of sociological damage to a child and it must be avoided if possible,” said Van Niekerk. Ten percent of the country’s population is made up of children under the age of five years and 61% of them receive social grants. Almost half of all mothers in South Africa are single. Only 33% of black children live with their fathers whereas 87% of white children live with both parents. Stats SA said children raised by single mothers often live in poverty. “We find that among most whites and Indians, both parents up to 87% and 97% are present where else among blacks where both parents are present is 33%... the outcomes in terms of education and employment could be different if both parents are together, we know that both parents are alive to 93% of the children, but not both parents take responsibility over raising children, said Statistician General Pali Lehohla.
