Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me...For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. (Isaiah 47:8a, 10, 11 KJV) This should be a very sobering thought for all Americans. Are we not given to pleasures and careless? Do we not act selfishly and trust in many things apart from God? I can truly say that most Christians, myself included, do not actively follow Pauls command of sobriety and vigilance. Life is not a game. It is a war against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Arm yourselves, believers, and prepare to fight the good fight of faith.
