(Romans 8:1, 2 NASB) A compliance based relationship is just a fancy way of putting someone back under law - a do good, get good; do bad, get bad mentality, with a heaping amount of unrealistic expectations and contingencies. However, what that relationship does not yield is intimacy, life, or love. Intimacy is brought to us by way of the cross. It instilled grace. Grace - the face love wears when met with imperfection. It is the ability to have compassion, regard, and desire for the ones you love the most. When someone doesnt meet your expectations, rules, or perhaps has more rough patches in their life than you, may I suggest you utilize the life giving Spirit within you to reflect His life to others. Its easy to shame, condemn, and punish those who you believe deserve it. Might I remind you that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, and the punishment He took was on our behalf. Grace is a beautiful thing. It gives way to freedom and redemption.
