Theres a decent article lurking in there somewhere but the end result was all over the place. You can go to the same museums and galleries stuffed with representations of muscled men and also see fops and dandies. And the assertion that small waisted women have always been deemed attractive is just silly and untrue. Drawing spurious historical comparisons just undermined what was being said. Currently there is a media obsession with muscled men but this also runs in parallel with skinny hipsters and a continued representation of camp. One aspect of modern life the author completely ignores is the greater awareness of health and fitness and the increased opportunities provided by gyms that simply were not so prevalent in previous decades. Muscle bound meatheads grunting with free weights are a small minority in most gyms. Most people going just go to get a bit fitter, not to turn themselves into steroid pumped mobile muscle mountains. Yes, there are issues of concern but maybe the author should have thought a little more before bashing out a rather ignorant stream of consciousness and then hitting send.
