Theres a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving. In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, And the voices of those who stand looking. MAN! Just those lyrics by themselves! Theyre like sweet red wine for the soul. Im sitting in my den, smiling as I remember hearing this song for the first time. I was in my friend Myrons basement where four of us were sharing one stolen beer and thinking we were very badass. From the first chords to the explosive finish, I just sat there mesmerized and thinking This music is...perfect. Its actually literally PERFECT. I loved it then. I love it now. So I cleaned garages, mowed lawns and picked up dog poop in the neighbors yard until I had enough money to buy my own copy. And I wore it out. (Remember when you could still do that...wear out a record, I mean?) The cover of that album still seems breathlessly mystical to me. THEN Im watching what remains of Zep being honored at Kennedy Center. I double dog dare you to watch this and not get tingles racing up and down your spine. So I decided to share it with you.
