Theres a great article in todays paper about the number of candidates for various political offices who owe back taxes. While this article deals primarily with judicial and other state offices, I encourage each of you to take the time to look up your own representatives, whether in a state office or a local office to see exactly what is happening with them. I find it ironic that these folks sit up on their thrones issuing forth rules, regulations, ordinances, and various other edicts while they themselves, who are being paid by tax dollars by the way, are not paying their fair share. Several NLR folks are mentioned in the article. If we had a decent local newspaper, perhaps they would be able to let the citizens of NLR know about this sort of thing, but we lost any sort of local investigative reporting years ago. Its a simple thing to check on your representatives, just go to PulaskiClerk and look around. You might be amazed in what you find. And remember, the next time these representatives start throwing our tax dollars around lining the pockets of their buddies and paramours, WE should start asking a few questions. Of course, our council does all it can to limit any sort of public input or explanation by doing things like raising fees (no vote of the people required) or declaring that things are emergencies which eliminates public hearings or questions.
