Theres a lot of blow-back in San Diego about the All Star game and FOX not celebrating the life of Tony Gwynn when they had the chance. I didnt know Tony well, just a couple of chance meetings. But, I know enough to tell you that Tony wouldnt have wanted a memorial in his honor. The game was so much more important to him. I did get to know Jerry Coleman, we often sat next to one another in the press box. Jerry wouldnt have wanted that either. Relax, San Diego. You get to remember your heroes without some television broadcast doing the honors for you. Feel lucky you didnt have to tolerate some fancy technical crew remembering the people you loved. Youre capable of doing that all on your own.
