Theres a lot of people who have a disdain for rap music and hip hop, and for good reason. The rap music perpetuated by the mainstream is the money, clothes and hos hip hop, the kind that encourages unbridled capitalism and misogyny. But really, the ones who had a REAL message and spoke the harsh truth about what it is to be a black man in the United States never made it into the mainstream. And the only one that cracked that market mysteriously died in 1996 during the infamous east coast vs. west coast rivalry. That man I speak of was Tupac Shaukur. Tupac may have been a bit abrasive and over the top towards the end of his career but he always spoke the truth. And well, we know where the truth gets you in this country. It gets you demonized and often killed. Most people dont realize that he was actually brilliant and YEARS ahead of his time. Of course being a product of the hood you automatically get stigmatized as an ignorant loud mouth you know what, which was anything but the case. Heres a video of him at the ripe old age of 17.
