Theres a modern way of farming that is growing and evolving. I thought this interesting because it requires very little other than old abandoned mill space.. or malls.. warehouses etc. Come to find out all plants need to grow is these blue and red spectrums of light.. they dont need the whole sun. LED works fine as no heat is required either. What they have started doing is they farm fish in one area. The water is filtered of solids and is used for the plants.. it provides all nutrients needed for most plants. The farmed fish is perpetually sold at market. The water the plants use is recollected and used back for the fish tanks. A reduction of 98% water waste. It is its own self sustaining ecological environment. The soil is reusable coconut shavings, it provides the most efficient path for the water/nutrients to get to the root. No nutrients are absorbed by soil. There are no pesticides, no waste, no drought, flash frosts, hurricanes, etc. It is completely sustainable, 100% organic and the kicker, as cabbage used as an example.. cabbage is ready to harvest up to 14 days quicker than field cabbage.. what does this mean for repickables like strawberries, raspberries etc.? You would think a space like Shaws or the Harbor Mall isnt big enough to grow food.. but these rows of plants are stacked vertically, meaning the actual area for growth is many, many times larger.
