Theres a new show coming to the Institution Theater next February and wee holding Auditions on Nov 16th :: Casting for: GrimmNoir - The Darker Side of your favorite Fairy Tales Directed by: Mike Kinald Assistant Director: David Lampe Date: Sunday November 16 from 10 am - 1 pm at the Institution Theater Approx 30 minutes per slot We are casting for the upcoming production of GrimmNoir, a show which combines the Grimms Brothers Fairy Tales and the world of Film Noir. Enter a world where Humpty Dumpty may have have been pushed off that wall instead of his well-known fall- A world where the Seven Dwarves may be smuggling gems in hollow bird statues, or where Hansel and Gretels parents ditch them in the woods to collect the insurance money. There are a thousand stories in this dark fantasy and GrimmNoir follows them all through the eyes of a grizzled hard-hitting Private Eye and his assistant as they unravel the plots and mysteries in the land of Old King Cole. The show will run for three weeks - Fridays and Saturdays at The Institution Theater at 8 pm during late February and early March February: 20th and 21st & 27th and 28th March: 6th and 7th About the Audition A working knowledge of the Grimms Tales and the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes is recommended. Knowledge of the Film Noir genre preferred. Were looking for folks who can play a variety of characters, from the fantasy to the gritty. Well be going over some typical scenarios and basic Noir characters in the auditions so if youre not too familiar with the genre its not a problem. We want you to have fun and we can work out the specifics once the cast is assembled. Required Rehearsals & Performance Three to four meetings will be held in Nov/December at the ability of the cast to introduce the ensemble to both genres and the format of the show. Rehearsals will begin in January and will be held every Sunday from 10am or 10:30 am to 1pm. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm with a dressed call time of 7pm Costumes for the show are a basic 1940s style dress - men wear suits/ties/hats, while the women are in their very best dress. ABOUT THE SHOW (The Original Pitch of the Show) “With fairy tale shows such as “Wicked” and “Into the Woods” being Broadway and touring hits, and the Noir style being popular both as a movie and play genre, our concept highlights what makes both genres special. It brings a gritty theme into what would normally be the fantasy world of the fairy tale. What would the story of Humpty Dumpty look like if it were not an accident but a murder? How about the domestic like of “Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater” who sequestered his wife in some isolated place because their relationship went sour? Or what was the real reason the Wolf kept destroying the Pigs’ homes?” In our show you get more of the “why” behind certain character motives and that could create a fuller plot and experience for the audience.” Structure The show is approximately 70 to 75 minutes long and will follow a Private Detective as he investigates two cases which by the end of the show have become related through some common theme or event. We will be taking a suggestion for a Fairy Tale and a Nursery Rhyme at the beginning of the show and those will inspire the story. The important thing is to have fun with this format and the show in general. I would like to create an ensemble of people who work together to not only tell a compelling and engaging mystery tale, but who will also enjoy what they are doing and support each other to make it an enjoyable experience for both the cast and audience. If you are not having fun while performing then whats the point, right? So join us as we take a look at the dark underbelly of the fantasy world. I look forward to seeing you there!
