Theres a pervading thought in the modern church that we have to be remarkable-- that were all destined to start orphanages in Africa and put an end to worldwide human trafficking. Not only is this notion unrealistic; its noxious to our relationship with the Lord. The idea has flowered into a paranoid search for where God needs me to be that reduces Gods sovereignty to a cosmic roadmap. If Gods plan depends on me to find out what it is, then not only is it destined to fail because of my insufficiency, but it insults the magnitude and sovereignty of our Lord by linking it to my ability to adhere to it.
