Theres a phenomenon known as Echo Chamber. This occurs when a person surrounds themselves exclusively with things that they agree with. Music that they know they like and people that like the same kind of music. They surround themselves with people who agree with their opinions and only view news sources that confirm their biases. The internet has thickened the walls of our echo chambers. Algorithms that predict your preferences sell for millions of dollars. With a click of a button we can permanently silence someone that we dont agree with. This phenomenon is detrimental to the human experience in my opinion. Our lives are getting smaller as our ability to be exposed to new and wonderful things should be expanding. We should surround ourselves not with yes men, but with critics. I make it a point to listen a listen to music I know I probably wont like, and to watch movies I know will be awful from time to time. My friends list is made of equal parts allies and opponents and both are just as important as the other. Emerge from your echo chamber and realize that there are things that you will love that are just waiting for you to notice.
